Milo folded paper into airplanes that zoomed like tiny comets - but he never told anyone how he did it. At recess, Milo sat under the old oak tree on the playground. His small paws bent crisp, colorful paper into sharp shapes. Swish! His latest plane soared above the swings and surprised a bunch of giggling second graders. 'Wow, Milo!' shouted Tessa, her braids bouncing as she chased after it. Milo smiled, tucking his secret folding steps back into his pencil box as the others gathered around. No one's planes flew like Milo's. Theirs twirled and dipped like fluttering leaves, or burst apart in the breeze. Milo's always zipped straight and true. He liked when classmates cheered, and he liked being the paper airplane champion. But he never showed his special folds. That was his secret - safe in the small space just between his paws. ## The Friendship Fair One sunny Monday, Ms. Lopez announced, 'We need hundreds of paper airplanes for the Friendship Fair! We'll fly them in a sky parade around the gym.' Everyone in the class started folding. Milo worked quickly and quietly. Aiden's desk squeaked as he pushed and pressed his paper, but his plane flopped to the floor. Tessa got her tips sticky with glue, but her wings curled like noodles. 'Oh no!' she sighed. All afternoon, the classroom fluttered with papers, but few planes flew. Sara blew gently on her plane, hoping for magic. 'Why won't mine zoom like Milo's?' she wondered. Milo looked down, feeling proud - and a little shy. He squeezed his pencil box, holding tight to his secret. ## The Big Decision By recess, Milo noticed the classroom had grown too quiet. Tessa sat with her head down. Aiden pushed his torn paper into his desk. No one was smiling now. The promise of a sky parade felt far away. Milo wanted to keep his trick to himself. He liked the way everyone clapped when he sent his plane soaring. But seeing Tessa's frown made his ears droop a little. Milo swallowed, heart thumping, and padded over. 'Wanna see something?' he whispered, pulling out a fresh blue paper. Tessa peered closer. Milo showed her how to press the tip flat. 'Fold here for a sharp nose,' he said, folding carefully. 'And line up the wings. Neat edges help it glide. Want to try?' Tessa's first try flopped. Her second try swooped - right into Milo's lap. They both burst out laughing. Aiden scooted closer. Sara's eyes grew round. Soon, everyone wanted to learn from Milo. He showed them one fold at a time, passing out tips and giggles. Paper crunched, laughter bounced, and the whole room felt brighter than before. ## The Sky Parade The Friendship Fair gym was sparkling with streamers and posters. Hundreds of bright paper planes hung by strings and filled the air like a rainbow flock. Milo watched his friends grin up at their creations. When Ms. Lopez called for the sky parade, the whole class lined up, airplanes in hand. At the count of three, they launched together, filling the gym with a fluttering whoosh. Planes dipped and glided with loops and twists, and the room swirled with cheers. Tessa's green-and-yellow flyer dove over the snack table. Aiden's zipped over Milo's head, almost as fast as Milo's own. ## A Heart Filled with Pride After the last plane landed, Tessa gave Milo a high-five. 'Thanks for showing us your tricks,' she said, her smile wide as the whole gym. Milo felt warmth in his chest - bigger and better than a blue ribbon. He glanced at the empty pencil box and grinned. This secret was sweeter when shared. That night, as Milo zipped his backpack, he knew his planes - and his heart - were truly magic now.
